FAQ

laser hair removal

What if I have red, grey, or blonde hair?

Since the laser is attracted to the pigment in the hair follicle, these hair colors may not have enough pigment to be successfully treated with the laser. If this applies to you, we may want to try a test spot to see if your hair responds to the laser.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Yes

If patients do see re-growth it is usually due to hormones, because hormones dictate hair growth. Certain medications may also cause re-growth of hair.

How many Laser treatments will I need?

It has been our experience that most of our patients are able to discontinue treatments, knowing they may need an occasional touch up, after an average of 3-6 treatments.

Keep in mind some individuals will require fewer treatments and some will require more treatments depending on individual hair growth cycles.

What happens to the skin after the laser hair removal treatment?

Some patients may experience a slight reddening. The redness usually subsides within a few minutes to a few hours and returns to normal. You are able to re-apply your make-up, return to work, and continue with your normal daily activities immediately following treatment.

What does the laser treatment feel like?

The treatments are very comfortable. Some patients describe a slight prickly or tickling sensation.

**You should never be treated with any numbing or topical creams and your treatments should never be unbearable.

Should I be treated with an IPL?

A common system that is misused to treat unwanted hair is an IPL system. IPL is a light source in which its primary use should be for the treatments of photo damage and acne.

IPL’s should never be used for hair removal because patients have a much higher risk of medical complications such as burns, and the risks of hyper pigmentation and/or hypo pigmentation. We offer IPL treatments in our office, however they are used for the treatment of acne, rosacea, and sun damage.

How does the Laser Remove the Hair?

The laser emits a beam of light that is attracted to the pigment or melanin in the hair follicle. Pre-determined pulse duration and energy settings are directed at and absorbed by the hair follicles, disabling the growth of the follicles, resulting in quick, safe, and effective hair removal.

Can I remove permanent make-up?

Some permanent make up can not be removed. We advise our clients to schedule a free consultation so that we can better examine the ink. After we look at the ink we will be able to give you an answer then.

Will I have a scar?

The chances of scarring are virtually zero if you are compliant with the aftercare instructions given to you by your treating clinician. Any scarring present before you begin tattoo removal will remain after the tattoo ink has been removed; our lasers do not remove existing scars, only ink.

Does it hurt?

We have performed over 70,000 treatments and have never had a patient complain that the treatment was too painful. There is a minimal amount of discomfort involved in the procedure but by managing your discomfort level at all times, we can assure you that you will love your experience and the results.

Do I have to pay for all of my treatments up front?

No. You only pay for your treatment on the day of your treatment.

I love my tattoo, but there just one part that bugs me. Can I have just a piece of it removed?

Yes. Our lasers are very accurate. We have performed thousands of treatments where our clients only needed a small portion removed.

Are there any limitations after the treatment?

You may resume all activities soon after treatment, provided you ensure the area is not rubbed or scratched. If you are in the sun, you should cover the treated area to prevent sunburn until the skin has healed.

I had a treatment a week ago and it seems all healed. Can I come in sooner than six weeks?

Healing is not the reason for the spacing of your treatments. The laser does not expel the ink; it breaks it up so your body’s immune system can take it away. If you treat your tattoo too frequently, the laser is simply targeting the ink your body hasn’t had the chance to remove, and you pay more for the same result.

I had my first treatment and nothing seems different. Is that Normal?

Yes. Some people may even see their tattoo get darker with their first treatment. Be patient and don’t worry everyone responds at a different rate.

Will it be gone after my first treatment?

No. There are several different factors involved in determining how many treatments your particular tattoo will require, but our patient’s average between 2 and 8 treatments.

My Tattoo has lots of different colors can it be removed?

Yes, we use state of the art lasers and the newest techniques. Some colors may require more treatments, but they can be usually removed.

How does the laser work?

Lasers work by producing short pulses of intense light that pass harmlessly through the top layers of the skin to be selectively absorbed by the tattoo pigment. This laser energy causes the tattoo pigment to fragment into smaller particles that are then removed by the body’s immune system. (If you’re wondering if the laser might also remove normal skin pigment, don’t worry. Our laser selectively targets the pigment of the tattoo without damaging the surrounding skin.)

We offer more laser technology than any other facility. Our multiple lasers enable us to fully and effectively treat any and all skin tones.

If you go in the sun, be sure to protect the treated area with an SPF of at least 30 which contains both UVA and UVB protection.

How long does a treatment take?

What does it feel like?

Although many patients report little to no discomfort, some may experience a slight tingling sensation when the laser pulse is diverted.

Will laser therapy work on my veins?

Yes, laser therapy is a very effective treatment for unwanted veins.

Many patients prefer laser therapy to injections simply because the laser is capable of treating numerous veins in a short period of time.

YAG Laser- This laser is FDA approved to treat leg veins and other vascular conditions anywhere on the body.

Intense Pulse Light- The Intense Pulse Light is the perfect solution to treating small facial veins and some superficial leg veins

How does the laser treat my veins?

fraxel

What are the Risks?

Edema and erythema are the most common side effects. Any edema is typically minimal and subsides within a day or two, and any erythema typically fades within a few days. Other temporary side effects may include minor itching, dry skin, peeling or flaking, and a bronzed skin appearance. There is a very limited risk of infection or scarring.

How many treatments will I typically need?

Clinical studies suggest that on average, an effective treatment regimen is 1 to 5 sessions spaced about 2 to 4 weeks apart. Depending on your condition and schedule, you may choose to space treatment sessions further apart. Results are both immediate and progressive, with optimal improvement usually visible in 1 to 2 months.
